Eden Race Drive continued its outstanding debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB as it took another overall victory at Thruxton, while all four drivers finished on the podium.
The team had a positive start to the weekend as Will Martin claimed pole position and fellow Pro class colleague Harry Foster achieved his best qualifying of the season in third place. In Pro-Am, Will Aspin finished second fastest, with Oli White just behind in fifth, with Josh Malin sadly absent as he will not be able to compete for the rest of this season.
The opening race was delayed on Sunday morning, but once the contest finally got underway, Will Martin lead the pack defending brilliantly from the competitor behind. Harry had a strong start off the line and was just behind second place, while Will Aspin was having some good battles with Pro class drivers.
Out front, Will Martin opened a three second gap to the car in second as Harry was putting pressure on from behind. Oli was making progress, gaining a position at Noble corner, and on the final lap Will Aspin regained second in Pro-Am. Will Martin achieved another victory in style, whilst Harry and Will Aspin scored their first podiums of 2024, and Oli just missed out in fourth.
Harry and Will Martin started second and fourth for race two and soon battling on track, while Will Aspin and Oli were also fighting for second in in Pro-Am. All the drivers were fair and kept it clean throughout the race, with Harry finishing third for a second podium of the day, Will Martin fourth, Will Aspin second in Pro-Am and Oli joining him on the podium in third.
It was another incredible weekend for the team, achieving its third win in three meetings with Will Martin – who has a 10-point lead atop the Drivers’ standings – and a third podium for Oli in Pro-Am.
With Harry and Will Aspin also claiming their first two podiums of the year spirits are high, with a seven-week break in action, before rounds seven and eight at Croft over the weekend of July 26-28.
Will Martin – #10 (Pro)
G1 – 1 R1 – 1
G2 – 4 R2 – 4
Championship: 1 (54 Points)
“We couldn’t have done any more this weekend. The team and I prepared really well in the tests and on Friday, and it all paid off in qualifying which is really important around Thruxton. Coming away with the win and the fastest lap, and then fourth, means we’ve scored the most points this weekend out of everyone. We couldn’t ask for much more and we’ll keep pushing for the same in Croft.”
Harry Foster – #16 (Pro)
G1 – 3 R1 – 3
G2 – 2 R2 – 3
Championship: 6 (21 Points)
“It was a very positive weekend. I was confident going into qualifying and managed to get P3. Race one I got away well, stayed in third for the start, but unfortunately couldn’t get past as it was tricky to overtake. For race two I started second and had a bit of a mistake as I bogged down a bit off the line and dropped to P3. Then I couldn’t really go forward much because of the dirty air and towards the end had to defend from my teammate. In the end it was an exciting race and a good weekend where I picked up two thirds, so I’m confident going into Croft.”
Will Aspin – #24 (Pro-Am)
G1- 2 R1 – 2
G2 – 2 R2 – 2
Pro-Am Championship: 7 (16 points)
“We were building on the pace from testing, so in FP1 we kept working on things and kept learning from what we found in the data. We put that together in qualifying and missed pole position by two tenths, so I was a bit annoyed but we’d made good improvements so I couldn’t be too upset.
“In race one I think we missed an opportunity to get the lead, but it’s okay because we finished second, and in race two second place was probably the best we could have done. Overall, it was a really good weekend, and we’ll have a break and aim to go even better at Croft.”
Oliver White – #94 (Pro-Am)
G1 – 14 R1 – 4
G2 – 13 R2 – 3
Pro-Am Championship: 4 (27 points)
“My qualifying was a bit of a disaster because I got blocked by one of the backmarkers which really compromised my grid position. It’s a shame because I had decent pace all weekend. From there, it was always going to be tough to make my way back up the order, but in the races, I had decent pace. I managed to climb a few positions in both, which I’m happy about, and I ended up with a Pro-Am podium.”
